Example of Obedience
Therefore,
my loved ones, just as you always obey me, not just when I am present
but now even more while I am away, carry out your own salvation with
fear and trembling. God is the one who enables you both to want and to
actually live out his good purposes. Philippians 2:12-13
Obedience is something we have had a problem with since we were
children. We couldn't wait until we were 'grown-ups' so we could be our
own boss! I don't know how many conversations I have had with those
who are 16-25 who want to take back those sentiments. The grown-up
world really isn't one of freedom, but one of demands, obligations,
responsibilities.
Obedience to God takes some of the pressure
off. We still have demands, obligations and responsibilities, but if
we go about our lives as God would wish, then we can trust that we are
where God desires us to be. Carrying out, or working out, our salvation
with fear and trembling means that we do not take our salvation for
granted. That we continually work with God to grow in the faith through
God's grace. In this way, we can be about God's work, and God's
purpose.
