Sermon - March 1, 2009, Neighbors and Strangers, based on the Scripture readings Romans 12:9-21, 15:7. The first of a series "Five Practices of Fruitful Congregations," based on the book by Bishop Robert Schnase.
I don't remember which blog I sent my comment to. I hope you can write back to me. I love God, and Jesus is my Lord. But there are questions I have, in the old testament. Women are cast aside. Daughters are treated like trash. Check Lot. I love my daughter and could not do that to her. If I had a problem like Lots, I would probably run outside with a rifle, and take care of it. Not sit inside with a bottle of wine with the angels, and send my virgin daughters outside to deal with the problem. My daughter is going to be a doctor. I will not send her out. I hope you would not send your virgin daughters out to be raped and killed by the neighbors, as Lot did. Also, in the cave, can you be so drunk that you do not know that your daughter is having sex with you. He must have taken bottles of wine with him as he left his home. Lot is known as Holy, But he in over 3000 years old. I hope we can be better. I will kill for the safety of my daughter. Alkataba.
Is the Bible the God breathIed word? I know you have to pray about this, and ponder this question. God seems to evolve with man. I remember in a Church I was going to, they told me that the jews did not beleive in Jesus because they were stuck in the law. Well if you did not follow the law of God, you would be taken outside the camp and stoned to death. The Jews were following the Laws of God.If this bothers you to much than just forget it. I will not bother you any more. God has his reason for doing what he does. If Moses can argue with him and win, God repents from him sin and does not kill all the children of Isreal. What is that to me. The children of Isreal are now home again. Is that in the Bible? I don't know. Alkataba
El Keetaaba, I wasn't certain you were actually asking questions. I too have a great many questions about God, Jesus, the Bible, etc., I certainly hope that no one on Earth has all the answers, as that would make God pretty small.
I do not believe that God has 'evolved with man.' I believe that God has throughout history worked with humanity to give us a better understanding of Godself and ourselves. So, in other words, God hasn't changed, humanity's understanding of God has changed.
I think some people who believe they have all the answers are only seeing a very small portion of God and not the whole picture so to speak. It is in conversation with one another that we can share our thoughts and understandings, and the understanding we have can continue to grow and broaden.
